{"id":3197,"date":"2019-04-08T12:01:03","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T10:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ldb-micaresearch.com\/?p=3197"},"modified":"2024-03-15T11:15:33","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T10:15:33","slug":"transport-priority-to-reduce-the-carbon-footprint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ldb-micaresearch.com\/en\/transport-priority-to-reduce-the-carbon-footprint\/","title":{"rendered":"<br>Transport: Priority to reduce the carbon footprint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transport: Priority to reduce the carbon footprint<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1373ab;\"><strong>Despite worrying announcements by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change <span style=\"color: #333399;\">(<u><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPCC<\/a><\/u>)<\/span> in October 2018 &#8211; that global temperatures would rise by +1.5% between 2030 and 2052 if no measures were taken &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>a new study published in January 2019 by the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><u><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/rhg.com\/research\/preliminary-us-emissions-estimates-for-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhodium Group<\/a><\/u><\/span> shows that no improvement has been made to try to slow global warming, particularly in the USA and China.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This study precises that <strong>the most energy-intensive sectors are: energy, transport, industry and construction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis also suggests that among these 4 energy-intensive items, <strong>transport is the one that has the most difficulty in reducing its carbon footprint<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Transport sector, in its diversity, includes several modes: passenger or freight transport and air or maritime transport.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #38b090;\"><strong>Let\u2019s focus on the transport of goods:<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>In the field of road transport, working on the carbon footprint is a priority. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thus, the <span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"color: #545252;\">Eurovignette Directive<\/span> <\/span>was specially designed by the EU to support each country in better organizing transport.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #545252;\">At the level of tolls, for example, an increase in taxes is targeted,<\/span> taking into account the pollutant emissions of heavy vehicles.<br \/>\nThis is not a discriminatory measure in itself. As the most environmentally friendly trucks (electric or compliant with specific environmental standards) will pay less at each toll.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #545252;\"><strong>The aim is not only to penalize polluters. But also to support the development of clean alternatives that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #38b090;\"><strong>An interesting example: the company GEODIS.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Since early 2018, GEODIS has been setting up a new multimodal freight transport line between Spain and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Since last summer, five to six trains a week have been using this route. Combined with a local &#8220;door-to-door&#8221; service, this alternative relieves congestion on European roads and reduces the carbon footprint of freight transport on this route.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0d699e;\"><strong><em>Do you have an Automotive or Mobility survey project?
