More environmentally friendly packaging, a priority for the French

A Bazaarvoice study conducted with supply chain and marketing managers in the distribution sector shows that French consumers’ demands concern above all environmental issues.

This point comes in first place ahead of product quality, shipping or the origin of materials. And for 49% of the French distributors surveyed.

This study was also conducted in Germany and the United Kingdom.

Distributors in the United Kingdom share the same opinion as the French, while in Germany, the priority is product quality.

The French distributors interviewed are still on the reserve with regard to this environmental issue.

88% of them say that their company has considered the use of recyclable packaging but only 13% admit that a change has occurred.

However, the National Pact for Plastic Packaging should contribute to this objective.

The aim of this pact is to achieve 60% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by 2022 and 100% by 2025. The signatories have also committed to using at least 30% recycled plastic in their packaging.

One example is the Sodiaal cooperative, which has just launched organic milk in more environmentally friendly packaging. Thus this brick is made of 75% recyclable cardboard. It also consists of plastic (instead of aluminium film) and cardboard (instead of plastic film surrounding the brick).
